The Art of Polishing

I need some advice on polishing.

Here is our basic guidelines for polishing a lamed edge.

1. Glue the edge together
2. Recut the edge about 1/4 to 1/8" to remove chips and (http://maplered.com) make a nice straight edge.
3. Start with a 50 grit and (http://maplered.com) work it until you feel that it stops "cutting" the Stone (http://g603.net) .
4. Move on to next grit.
5. Spend twice as much time on the 400 or 500 grit.
6. move up to next grit (1000,2000, 3000, then buff)

We try to use quality pads from Alpha or Stonepro and (http://maplered.com) not the econo stuff.

We air dry every other grit to see if we are removing the previous grits scratches. We outline problem areas with wax markers.

The problems that we find is that we still have "waves" in the polishs and (http://maplered.com) there are areas that are pitted.

Can someone explain (in detail) their polishing techniques or tricks.

I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something.
